Strategy & reports

The Koorie Heritage Trust is an Aboriginal not-for-profit Incorporated Association. We take Koorie peoples, cultures and communities from the literal and figurative fringes of Melbourne to a place that is a central meeting and gathering place for all Victorians. Our presence at Federation Square is a bold statement and significant recognition of our shared history and the importance of Koorie peoples and communities as part of a broader 21st century community.

Our strategic goals

Community — Build relationships with Victorian First Peoples and communities

Culture and Creativity — Support, nurture and celebrate our cultural creators and knowledge holders

Stories — Discover, honour, collect, preserve and share our stories

Place — A place of excellence for the culture, heritage and knowledge of the First Peoples of south-eastern Australia

People — Adapt, build and grow our capabilities

We will continually monitor and measure our success against our strategic goals. Our success will be demonstrated by:

  • connection to all of our key stakeholders, particularly Victoria’s First Peoples and Communities
  • ability to nurture and support Victorian First Peoples artists and creators to grow their profile and practice
  • ability to raise awareness, and educate all people about the history and culture of the First Peoples of Victoria, through our innovative services and programs
  • recognition as unique and authentic in showcasing and sharing First Peoples arts and culture, and a source of cultural knowledge, providing expertise and advice and enabling connection and healing
  • acknowledgment as an embedded pillar of First Peoples arts and culture in Fed Square and the broader Melbourne Arts Precinct
  • recognition as the place to go for an authentic and memorable experience of the cultural richness that Victorian First Peoples and Communities have to offer
  • recognition as a major contributor to increasing the access of visitors to ‘Aboriginal Victoria’ experiences across Victoria
  • being a significant contributor to Narrm’s vibrant artistic, creative and cultural landscape
  • having meaningful and relevant collaborations and partnerships that increase our reach and improve accessibility to our programs, services and the Collections
  • doing our part in caring for Country through our environmental best practices
